My first Blog
So I watched Evan Erwin's footage of his interview with Aaron Forsythe today. Have to feel sorry for Aaron, so much pressure on him and then people flip a lid when something gets banned and blame him. Sorry Mental misstep got banned bra(I'm only sorry I didn't unload my playset before the announcement*sadface*), but shit happens. At least they were nice enough to make Modern official, even if they did go ban happy so soon. I am not terribly shocked by some of the picks, but like lots of people pointed out, unbanning might balance things out better then more banning. Oh well. I hadn't started building a modern deck yet so I wasn't too torn up about it. Innistrad is out in a week, I'm somewhat excited. Hoping the rotation will give my U/B Tezz control deck a bit more of a chance, finding Valakut is too greasy to handle right now, even with Tectonic Edge. Everflowing Chalice rotating out makes me sad though, manalith and Sphere of the Suns aren't true mana ramping IMO, though solemn simulacrum is pretty fun. Still doesn't beat a chalice, especially if you have some proliferate options in the deck. Still, am liking my odds considerably more, even with the possibilities of jenky graveyard recurence shenanigans going down in Innistrad. Nothing in there makes the new metagame look too scary, except some new toys for birthing pod. Garruk Relentless w/ Birthing Pod and Skaab Ruinator might be nasty, none of the morbid option creatures seem that good really, with the exception of the Reaper from the Abyss. I am wagering pods will start going up even more in the first few weeks of the new Standard(maybe longer depending how it all actually performs), probably peaking around 25 each. If Birthing Pod was to become the new Caw-Blade, expect Torpor Orb to step up a little bit, maybe to 5 or 6 dollars each. I'm also expecting Surgical Extraction to take a leap up, and maybe even see Nihil Spellbombs as a side option in non-black decks. Honestly though, only thing in Innistrad I might utilize is the new Liliana. Seems like a decent tool box card. Maybe the reprint of think twice also. See Beyond leaving my deck is a bit of a blow. Final words of the day, Evan Erwin talks out his ass a lot, and even a broken watch is right twice a day.
